Ismo Laakso is a composer, pianist and conductor whose music moves freely between beautiful melodies, baroque colours and uncompromising noise. He works extensively with samples, but also writes fully notated instrumental and vocal music, while improvisation at the grand piano remains an equally natural part of his musical language.

Each work begins with its inner core and purpose. From there, any musical material may become part of it. From early Baroque through Gubaidulina to Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music, the whole history of sound is available as material.
